Senior Ride Program

Joan Biba - Manager
Phone: (630) 620-2413

York Township can take pride in a very successful Transportation Program. It’s been in operation since 1976 and now averages over 30,000 rides per year. With rising costs, increasing riders, and limited staff, the following guidelines are needed to maintain the quality of service.

Who can ride
The program is open to seniors 55 years of age and older who reside in York Township. This takes in Lombard, Villa Park, Elmhurst, Oak Brook, Oakbrook Terrace, and small sections of Glen Ellyn, Downers Grove, and Westmont.

Hours of operation
Ride service is available Monday thru Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Reasonable fares

One-way essential rides transportation to a grocery store, or medical appointment will cost $3 each way.

One-way non essential rides transportation for general shopping, hair salon will cost $4 each way.

Rides to and from York Township will remain $2 each way.

Advance reservations required
We require 48 hours to make a reservation, but we would appreciate your calling us one week in advance. For Senior Center parties and outings, notify our office as soon as you purchase your tickets.

When making a reservation, keep the address and phone number of your destination handy. If your trip is for medical reasons, we will need the name of your doctor along with the address, phone number, and time of appointment.

The daily ride schedule depends on availability of drivers, vehicles, and practical routing.

Keep a written record
You will be given a pickup time and return time. We strongly urge that you write down this information as we can no longer accept calls to verify the schedule. We have been deluged with repeat calls of this type that continually tie up the phone lines.

Plan to be ready early
Please be ready 15 minutes before your scheduled ride. However, since the drivers have to pick up several people within one time slot, they are on tight schedules and cannot always be on time. Please do not call the office to check unless the driver is over 15 minutes late.

When you are with a large group, wait for the driver to call your name before entering the vehicle. The driver will take only those people who are on his/her schedule.

Return trips home
On shopping trips, we ask that you assist the driver with your grocery bags. Please limit your groceries to 4 paper bags or 7-8 plastic bags.

If your medical appointment runs overtime due to circumstances beyond your control and you are not ready for the pickup, we will try to reschedule for a later time but no later than 3:15 p.m.

Changes or cancellations
If we need to change your scheduled time, we will call you the day before or on the morning of your ride.

If you make a reservation and find you must cancel, simply give us a call. Failing to notify our office to cancel a scheduled ride before the driver arrives will result in a $2 penalty fee.

If you have any questions about our service or the above policies, please call us at 630-620-2413.

We are very proud of our model Transportation Program and trust we will be able to continue providing you with quality, safe, personalized service.
