The Highway Department has plenary jurisdiction over all unincorporated
rights-of-way within the 36 square miles which comprise York Township. It
maintains some 68 lane miles of paved roadways and approximately 72 miles of storm water drainage
pipes, ditches, and laterals. With few exceptions, the right-of-way is 66 feet
wide, or 33 feet from the center of the street to the property line.
Within that 66 feet, the Road District assumes many responsibilities. Included
among the department's functions are snowplowing, paving, crack filling,
patching, brush and branch pickup, tree trimming (along roadways), signage
maintenance, and culvert cleaning, repair, and replacement.
